"Efficiency" vs. survival

"...we have to build back into the system Resiliency. This means that each region has to work to become largely energy, food and financially self sustaining and that each region needs to network into the others. In effect we shift from an efficient machine to a resilient network."

Robert Paterson, as quoted by London Banker.

Like I keep saying, it's about diversity, dispersion and disconnection - please click on the label below for my posts on this subject.

And also to you, Welshcakes. I haven't written my Christmas cards, yet, either. Best wishes to you for 2009.

The government might have a useful part to play in ensuring the country produces enough calories to feed the population, however higher quality foodstuffs should be traded for.

Also most food spoils quickly, so JiT is very productive.

Hi, ACO. Most GOOD food spoils quickly. Half the foodstuffs on the supermarket shelves appear to consist of corn starch and glucose. Perhaps a national survival strategy is to store a million tons of Twinkies in a disused mine. Or to extend the growing liberties under euthanasia law so the rich can eat the poor, who tend to be fat.
